Description: Ernest Edwards was born in 1914 in Wimbledon South London. He was educated at local schools before going to the Royal College of Art, where he graduated in 1935. After the war he returned to Wimbledon School of Art as part-time lecturer but went on to become a senior lecturer and finally Head of the Fine Art Department. He continued to paint throughout his life and although the subject matter changed from figurative to abstract and back to figurative, his paintings demonstrated the same high level of draughtsmanship and care. He exhibited his paintings in the Royal Academy Summer Show and also in the New English Arts Club as well as a number of commercial galleries including The 20th Century Gallery in London where this work was exhibited circa 1980. He lived in Guildford Surrey and exhibited his paintings regularly in the Royal Academy Summer Show and also at the New English Arts Club as well as a number of commercial galleries including The 20th Century Gallery in South West London - where this work was exhibited circa 1980.
