I wrap them in doubled up kraft paper the moment they enter my posession to ensure the shrink wrap stays intact. You'll receive them this way. Outside of their job as wifi extenders or bridges, they provide an easy way to set up a whole home audio system. I've found that they are best if they're wired to ethernet for Airplay, but they also do well as wireless airplay receivers. The back audio port can work with either a normal 3.5mm aux cable or a 3.5mm mini TOSlink optical cable. These will have an old firmware revision and in order to use airplay 2 as well as other improvements you will need to flash them with the latest 7.8.1 firmware immediately once you plug them in.
