Description: Wonderful large cloisonné koi fish on hand carved wooden base. Stands almost 15 inches tall. Width at widest point is almost 7 inches. Primary body color is a teal with cobalt blue as secondary color of the scales. This piece can be displayed both on the base in a "jumping" pose or without the base on its stomach. No manufacturing marks. Likely Japanese and produced in the mid 20th century. Could be Chinese, but it was recently pulled from the estate of an American Japanese woman who collected high end Japanese items. No major damage to the fish just minor surface wear due to age. Black base has some paint loss where the fish rests. This paint loss is hidden when the fish sits on the base.
