Description: I'm pleased to offer this specimen of Galena with Sphalerite in Calcite and Quartz from the Bryzant (Deutschland) mine, Twin Bridges, Madison County, Montana. The specimen measures 3.78 x 3.13 x .93 inches or 9.60 x 7.95 x 2.37cm and shows a sawn display face and a classy attached label. The Bryzant or Deutschland mine was briefly worked from about World War I to the late 1930s and for a bit during World War II. It produced mostly lead with a little silver and zinc. It last produced, as far I can tell, in 1945 and produced only 34 tons of ore. This piece shows bright cleavages of galena in a sugary calcite and quartz with dark masses of sphalerite. Calcite was not reported from the mine on mindat.org but I noticed its texture under the loupe and performed an acid test with a very vigorous and instantaneous result of rapid bubbling as the acid consumed the calcium carbonate. The calcite also fluoresces a dull red color under shortwave UV light. The backside remains natural with the attached label and the frontside is sawn but unpolished and really shows off the coarse galena texture and masses of black sphalerite set against the light-colored calcite and quartz matrix. The ore texture on this piece is outstanding. This is a very attractive ore specimen! Please check my feedback and my other eBay items.
