This was during an October 26th, 1980 performance in Lakeland, Florida, in support of The Rossington-Collins Band’s debut album, Anytime Anyplace Anywhere. This was the first time on the road for Gary since surviving the plane crash that killed many of his Skynyrd friends and bandmates just two years prior. As one can imagine, the determined guitarist was energized to be back on stage once again. This image is a beautiful and lasting tribute to Rossington and his ongoing appeal, as well as the power of the two beloved bands he co-founded.
