Description: Great Britain, Scott 1, SG 2, SG Specialized AS41, unused. 1840 1p black Queen Victoria, corner letters D-K, Plate 6, 2 large margins, part OG, small shallow thin. A rare stamp. 2023 Scott Classic Specialized CV: $12,500.00.The 2022 Sergio Sismondo certificate states:"1840 1 penny black, imperforate, on medium white wove paper with watermark "Small Crown" upright, lettered D-K.The stamp is genuine, unused with part of the original gum. The stamp has two large margins, but it is cut/touching the framelines at upper left and lower right. It has fresh color, and part of original gum. Some gum was added, especially at center left. The gum covers some pencil markings, which in turn hide shallow thinning. There are no other faults or repairs. The stamp was printed from plate 6.""The upper right square is missing its vertical edge, this is not a fault since it is a constant plate variety for this position on Plate 6."The PENNY BLACK, as this issue is commonly known, is credited as the first adhesive postage stamp. It depicts the then young Queen Victoria, and was printed in sheets of 240 from 11 different plates by Perkins, Bacon & Petch. It is also the first of the avidly collected LINE ENGRAVED issues of Great Britain, and the issue is also actively collected by sheet position which is indicated in the lower corners of the stamp from position A-A to position T-L.
