The estate is in the Ngorongoro area about 100 miles from Arusha town in Arusha region of Tanzania. At an altitude of about 60000 ft. and due to its proximity to the nearby volcanic Ngorongoro Crater, the area’s mineral-rich volcanic soil, ample rainfall and shade provided by albizzia, grevillea, and cordia trees create ideal conditions for growing outstanding coffee. This results in a coffee with bright acidity and a distinctive character with a creamy body and fruit notes like dates, lemon and cherry. The farm also serves as a vital wildlife corridor with Buffalo, Elephants and other animals moving through. Total planted area is 200 hectares. The Nitin Coffee Estate proudly carries the RainForest Alliance certification. What is a Peaberry?Normally the fruit (“cherry”) of the coffee plant contains two seeds (“beans”) that develop with flattened facing sides, but sometimes only one of the two seeds is fertilized, and the single seed develops with nothing to flatten it. This oval (or pea-shaped) bean is known as Peaberry. Typically around 5-10% of all coffee beans harvested have experienced this peculiarity. They tend to be smaller and denser than their flat cousins. Fans think they taste noticeably sweeter and more flavorful than standard-issue beans. The coffee is mainly harvested in the August-September time frame using the selective method, where only the ripe cherries are picked and delivered to the wet mill the same day.
