SMART LOAD is air-cooled/forced air cooled; there is no transformer oil to mess with; or hot heat-sinks to worry about. SMART LOADS, are the perfect, dummy load, for the ham who does not require a much larger load (watts). SMART LOADS are handy for tuning, adjusting, and fixing your radio equipment. The SMART LOAD is compatible with most amplifiers, transceivers, and transmitters from DC-2GHz. The RoHS Compliant; ±5% Tolerance, 50 Ohm terminator resistor, is rated DC-2GHz @ 250W with a 1.2 VSWR over the frequency range. CONSTRUCTION The termination resistor is mounted on a 2” x 1.5"” x 1/4” thick, solid copper; silver coated heat spreader. A DC brushless fan, with ball bearings, generates a sufficient volume of airflow, for effective cooling. The SMART LOAD comes with a DC Power cable with a 2.1mm connector; and a 110 VAC/VDC wall adapter, with a 2.1mm connector to power the fan. The fan is powered by a DC-DC Variable Volt Regulator: Input 3.0-35V & Output 1.5-35V Adjustable Buck Converter, Power Supply Module. For any heat source that cannot be cooled through its own conduction cooling, a more efficient cooling system than just a heat spreader is required. The SMART LOAD utilizes both heat sink, and heat spreader approaches; with convection cooling, to move heat away from the source; and dissipate it through an optimized conduction & convection cooling arrangement. The Heat-sink makes direct contact with the heat source (termination resistor) and spreads the heat from the hot spot to the fins. Aluminum has a thermal conductivity of 235 watts per Kelvin per meter; where a fan directly above the heat-sink exhausts the heat (convection cooling) forcing cooler air across the fins, creating turbulence and increasing the cooling performance of the heat sink.
