Description: For your consideration is this 50 inch tall solid wood lamp by the renowned Laurel Lamp Manufacturing Company of Newark, NJ dating to the 1960's designed by in house designers Richard Barr and/or Harold Weiss. Lamp body is a solid wood modern biomorphic or anamorphic free from sculpture, made of either teak or walnut wood in asymmetrical form with heavy Scandinavian influence. Swedish brass base and neck with matching wood veneer panels on all four sides of the bottom base. Laurel exclusive rectangular harp with the addition of a standard size threaded lamp nipple pipe with hex nut and lockup cap serving as the shade rest and finial. A different size 3/8" regular threaded lamp pipe can be used if needed to accommodate your own shade. Also, the harp can be converted to a conventional saddle/spring halo harp if you so desire to make it accepting of other shades. The Laurel Lamp Foundation tells me this was a scarcely produced model available in two finishes. The natural wood organic sculpture here and the black wood model with "Shou Sugi Ban" (I hope I spelled that correctly) effect- a Japanese technique in which a wooden vessel is produced with an intentional charred finish to accentuate the grain of the wood. The shade shown is not original to the lamp, but was recreated with the look of the original shade in mind using a vintage hardback liner, covered in a "slub" cream linen (they called it "Vellum") with coordinating organic earth tone striped and brown velvet trim. The lamp shade is entirely optional for shipping. If you choose to take it, unfortunately we will have to charge an extra shipping fee beyond the wooden lamp base as it will require a separate large oversized carton. Please inform us before checkout if you would like to own the shade shown. As shown with shade, this lamp stands a whopping 50 inches tall. Without the shade, it is approx. 44" to the top of the rectangular harp, not including threaded pipe. As shown, it is technically a table lamp. Add your own extra tall conical, drum or cylinder shade and this lamp could serve as a floor lamp. The base is very heavy and resistant to tipping. The lamp has already been updated with a new socket, cord, and polarized plug to meet modern electrical standards. The wooden sculpture shows only minor nicks and scratches commensurate with its age of approximately 60 years. The Swedish brass finish on the bottom base and neck is sparkling. Lamp has been taken apart, cleaned, polished, and of course, new socket and cord installed. The lamp is quite heavy weighing approximately 12 lbs. Thanks for checking it out! Questions are always welcome. Lamp will not be packed until it is sold in case more details and pictures are requested. Feel free to make an offer, and or inquire about shipping cost if it seems too high or low to your zip as ebay's shipping calculators are not always accurate. I can ship with post office or Fedex. Pickup at our ranch out in the country is welcome. Located in Western KY off I-24 approx. halfway between St. Louis and Nashville. This item is worth the drive and a scenic drive it will be.
