Description: Huge WW1 Belgian Memorial Photos. “Our Heroes of Landen Township” This massive 22”x27” framed photo compilation is a memorial commemorating every WW1 fatality of soldiers from the township of Landen in Belgium. Landen is a tiny little city center east in Belgium. Partially researched, a selection of names are: Dieudonné Tossens, a colonial infantry sergeant who was KIA during the Belgian Congo offensive into German East Africa. Tossens was killed on the 7th of November 1916 and is buried at Dar es Salaam War Cemetery in what is now Tanzania (part of former German East Africa) Sylvain Wauters, a Sergeant in the 1st Grenadiers who was KIA in October of 1915. Philibert Munten who died on August 15th 1914 at Loncin Fortress in Liege. The Germans invaded Belgium on August 4th, and Liege was initially attacked on August 6th. Loncin Fortress sustained heavy bombardment from the 12th of August till the 15th when twelve tons of explosives kept in the fort detonated as a result of the bombardment, the explosion nearly leveled the fortress and killed 350 of the 550 soldiers holding Loncin. Philibert Munten and his comrades remain buried under the rubble which is now regarded as a war cemetery. Loncin Fortress was the only fortress in Liege not to surrender.
