Description: Nice 8 x 12 oil painting on board showing a steamship at sea. The painting is signed in the lower right corner “J. C. Collins”. The steamship looks like it is from the late 19th century or early 20th century. According to my research “J.C. Collins, or James Collins, is a lesser-known American painter active during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Collins is known for his impressionistic style, often capturing serene landscapes, maritime scenes, and tranquil rural life. His work exhibits delicate brushwork and a sensitivity to light, sometimes echoing the techniques of Impressionism. Though Collins was not widely recognized in the mainstream art world, his pieces have gradually gained appreciation, especially among regional collectors and art historians focusing on American Impressionism.” The painting is unframed, but was framed sometime in the past as there is a 1/4 inch dirty line around the edge of the painting. I have not tried to clean the darkened area.
