Description: This is a very lovely 3-part block print named, " Moon Viewing Banquet at seaside Villa", 1886. A 14.5" x 28.5" original in excellent condition. Chikanobu Toyohara (AKA as Chikanobu Yoshu) was a leading woodblock print artist of the Meiji Period. Born in Niigata prefecture as Naoyoshi Hashimoto, Chikanobu was the son of samurai in the service of the Sakakibara clan. During the Meiji Restoration, he joined the shogi Tai, an elite samurai brigade in direct support of the waning Tokugawa Shogunate and bravely fought in the Battle of Ueno in 1868. Though captured, he was released unharmed. As the Shogunate fell, Chikanobu focused on a career in art. Was in a collectors estate who has stored it away for some years carefully in plastic sleeve. Only removed for photos. Super-size to see well. I think you will agree, it is in very nice condition. Watch for more from this estate. E-questions. Will mail FREE FED-EX. No early ends.
