John Barry CD Another Hour In The Ember Lounge (2010)Twiggy Annie Ross (Sixties)

Description: Step into the Ember lounge where the soundtrack is an impeccably blended cocktail of sixties and seventies recordings sourced from the vaults of British indie label Ember. Top notch easy listening (courtesy of production wunderkind Mark Wirtz) rubs shoulders with light jazz featuring some of Britain s top names (Tony Crombie, Tubby Hayes, Tony Kinsey, Ken Moule and Harold McNair). Torch songs from divas Annie Ross and Lita Roza are juxtaposed with novelty instrumentals and sumptuously-arranged contributions by soul singer Carol Woods and pop duo Chad & Jeremy. Oh, and we ve chucked in a funky shark attack, courtesy of Johnny Otis, for good measure. Over 65 minutes the mood ranges from breezy, to exhilarating, to exotic, ending on a melancholic note, as we reluctantly stumble out of the Ember lounge and head for home Track Listings 1Ken Moule: Sweet Nell - Ken Moule & The London Jazz Chamber Group 2Polly Niles: Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) - Polly Niles 3Johnnie Spence: London Theme - Jazz Waltz - John Barry 4Mark Wirtz: Chip Chip - Mark Wirtz & The Mood Music Orchestra 5Carol Woods: I Wonder What Will Happen - Carol Woods 6Tony Crombie & His Friends: Flute Salad - Tony Crombie & His Friends 7John Barry Seven & Orchestra: Kinky - The John Barry Seven & Orchestra 8Annie Ross: What's New - Annie Ross 9Mark Wirtz: Comin' Home, Baby - Mark Wirtz, His Orchestra and Chorus 10Bob Miller & The Millermen: Hullabaloo And Custard - Bob Miller & The Millermen 11Johnny Otis: Jaws - Johnny Otis 12Ken Moule: Mae West - Ken Moule & The London Jazz Chamber Group 13Gliss Anders: Bistro - Gliss Anders 14Edwin Astley Orchestra: Light Affair - Edwin Astley & The Studio Orchestra 15Chad & Jeremy: Only For The Young - Lita Roza 16Lita Roza: My Heart Belongs To Daddy - Miss X 17Miss X: Christine - London Jazz Quartet 18London Jazz Quartet: Mirage - Bernie Wayne and His Orchestra 19Bernie Wayne & His Orchestra: Telephone Tahiti 222 - Mark Wirtz & The Mood Music Orchestra 20Mark Wirtz: Everything I Know - Tony Kinsey Quintet 21Chad & Jeremy: The Girl From Ipanema 22Tony Kinsey Quintet: World Of Blue Product information Label‎Fantastic Voyage Number of discs‎1 ASIN‎B003DPEZM8 Additional Information Best Sellers Rank: 101,077 in CDs & Vinyl (See Top 100 in CDs & Vinyl) 391 in TV Soundtracks 6,807 in Dance & Electronic 43,310 in Pop Sponsored Customer reviews 4.4 out of 5 stars4.4 out of 5 3 global ratings Top review from United Kingdom Levy 4.0 out of 5 starsVerified Purchase Happy Hour In The Ember Lounge - Various Artists Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 February 2011 Aside from the obligatory John Barry contributions which I concede is necessary but also annoying considering the label's recent box set, there's a heap of fun to be had in the Ember lounge. From the novelty schtick of 'Christine' (sung by the late Joyce Blair sister of dear old Lionel) that dared poke fun at the British establishment over The Profumo Scandal to the vocal elegance of Britain's greatest female Jazz singer Annie Ross. Other highlights include Johnny Otis' deep funk work out 'Jaws' which seems to have been inspired by the movie judging by the screams that occur at the beginning and end of the track but sounds nothing like the theme made famous by John Williams. Jazz man Ken Moule's 'Mae West' is another funker, lots of stabbing brass, a decent trumpet solo from the legendary Kenny Wheeler who played with everyone including David Sylvian and Spiritualized. The Cher classic 'Bang Bang' gets an easy make over courtesy of Polly Niles who was at one time married to Ramblin' Jack and appeared in the movie Superfly. 'I Wonder What Will Happen' by soul singer Carol Woods is in the same vein as 'Midnight Train To Georgia'. Not as good you understand but the build up is deeply satisfying as is the use of strings and harmonica a la Midnight Cowboy. Which brings me nicely onto JB himself whose 'Kinky' is somewhat redolent of his masterpiece 'The Knack' which defined London in the swinging sixties. Wunderkind instrumentalist Mark Wirtz & his group of girl singers and seasoned musicians that included Big Jim Sullivan & Vic Flick does a swinging cover of Mel Torme's 'I'm Coming Home Baby'. Chad & Jeremy weigh in with a light, but infectious folksy instrumental that should blow away the winter blues. The London Jazz Quartet conjure up the exotic on the flute led percussive 'Mirage'. There's also tracks by future ITC's main composer Edwin Astley, Lita Rozsa and Bob Miller & The Millerman's whose 'Hullaboo & Custard' sounds like a deranged kid's T.V. theme that put me in mind of Johnny Hawskworths 'Rhubarb & Custard' and the work of Daniel Pemberton who composed 'Peep Show'. Good stuff! 3 peopl
