Description: John Haberle original drawing artwork "Standing Victorian Woman". Haberle (1856-1933) was a renowned 19th century artist known for being one of the most important trompe-l'oeil still-life artists in history. The artwork is 10" x 7.5" and is signed and dated in the corner February 13, 1885. This original artwork was owned by his daughter Vera Haberle Demmer (see my other Haberle artwork posted for sale for her provenance and signature) and was acquired by the executives of my father's South Florida insurance company sometime around the 1960s or 1970s. As seen in the photographs, it was examined by Sotheby's Madison Avenue galleries at some point and graded 41/5. There is minor water damage in the lower right corner. The heyday of my father's business was in the 60s and 70s, and the company had downsized significantly by the 2010s. During a move to a smaller office, most pieces (Apollo moonlanding invitation, Abraham Lincoln portrait commissioned by his grandson, etc) were taken home by employees, with these Haberle artworks put in a pile for disposal. I am not in the art field but I recognized the artistic and historical importance of these pieces, so saved them from being destroyed.
