Johnny Ringo Tombstone Biehn outlaw gunfighter custom 12" figure Old West

Description: This is a custom 12" figure commemorating a real American outlaw and gunman of the Old West, Johnny Ringo. Johnny Ringo was born in Greensfork, Indiana May 3,1850. When he was 6 years old his family moved to Liberty, Missouri. Ringo was in Missouri about the same time Frank and Jesse James (a few years older) were growing up in nearby Kearney, Missouri. Ringo was a cousin to the Youngers through the marriage of an aunt. A few years later the Ringo family decided to move to California. They were in Wyoming on the way to California when Ringo's father died unexpectedly. Martin Ringo was killed when his shotgun discharged as he was climbing off a wagon. Johnny Ringo was 14. Ringo would later move from California to Mason County Texas. There Ringo became acquainted with Scott Cooley an ex-Texas Ranger. Ringo was involved in the Mason County War. This war revolved around rustling and pitted two factions against each other. Johnny Ringo killed his first man on September 25, 1875. Ringo was involved in a few shootings and killings, went to jail a couple of times (John Wesley Hardin was supposedly a cellmate on one of these occasions), and arrested with a pal of his, George Gladden for murder. Gladden got 99 years while Ringo was apparently acquitted. Ringo later served as a lawman for a couple of years. Shortly after that time Johnny Ringo arrived in Tombstone, Arizona. Ringo is best remembered for this time in his life. He was part of an outlaw gang the Cochise County Cowboys. Other members of the gang were Ike Clanton, "Curly Bill" Brocius, Frank Stillwell, Billy Claiborne, Tom and Frank McLaury. The members of the gang were on good terms with local Sheriff John Behan. The gang's main endeavor was rustling cattle in Mexico and selling them in Arizona. They also were thought to rob stagecoaches as well as other crimes. Tombstone eventually saw the arrival of Wyatt Earp with brothers Virgil and Morgan. Wyatt's friend Doc Holliday also arrived in Tombstone. It was not long before the Earps and Holliday found themselves in conflict with Ringo, Clanton, Brocius and the Cowboys. Eventually the two factions shot it out at the OK Corral. Johnny Ringo was not part of the OK Corral shootout but is believed to have been part of the ambushes later, that killed Morgan Earp and seriously wounded Virgil Earp. After these ambushes Wyatt formed a federal posse to hunt down those responsible and deliver justice. The posse found and killed Frank Stillwell. Meanwhile Behan formed a posse authorized by a judge in Tucson, to hunt down Wyatt, Doc and friends. Johnny Ringo was deputized to be part of Behan's policy. Shortly after this time Johnny Ringo was found dead due to a single gun shot wound to the head. Ringo was found leaning against the base of a tree, his gun in his hand, one shot fired. His feet had parts of his undershirt wrapped around them, no boots (it was common practice to keep the boots tied on the horse to prevent scorpions crawling in when camping) and no horse. The death was ruled suicide. Ringo had mentioned suicide a few times in the past. Many people do not believe Ringo killed himself. There are several theories as to who was responsible. Some say Wyatt Earp saw Ringo and shot him with a rifle. Earp later explained in detail to a historian how he killed Ringo. There is also a story of Doc Holliday substituting for Earp in a challenge to a gun duel (as in the movie Tombstone). Billy Claiborne would later (on his death bed) say he saw Frank Leslie kill Ringo. Another story gives credit for Ringo's death to Michael O'Rourke. His motive to kill Ringo was that Ringo had led a lynch mob to string O"Rourke up for a suspected murder. Wyatt Earp protected O'Rourke from the mob. Whatever happened, Johnny Ringo was truly a colorful character of the old west. Figure designed mainly for display purposes for the wild west fan. Please note that while this figure does not look exactly like Johnny Ringo or Michael BIehn, there is a bit of a resemblance. Please note Tombstone is a great movie for the old West fan and Biehn does a credible job portraying Johnny Ringo. A great part in the movie, Tombstone is when Johnny does some fancy gun spinning to the delight of his cohorts in a kind of veiled threat to the Earps and Doc Holliday.......The best part of the confrontation is Doc's response with a metal drinking cup mimicing Ringo's fancy gunplay! This figure is fairly articulate and displays nicely. Gunbelt and holster are custom made, metal six-gun by stevos. This would make a nice addition to any collection. stand included. sold as is.
