Description: JOURNAL OF A VIETCONG by Truong Nhu Tang. VERY GOOD First Edition unstated hardcover, 1986. Inspired to political activism as a student in Paris in 1945 by a meeting with Ho Chi Minh, the author worked voraciously in pursuit of the overthrow of the US-controlled government and to establish independence and liberty for the people of South Vietnam. A foremost political agitator for the Vietcong, a founding member of the National Liberation Front of South Vietnam, and a cabinet minister in the Provisional Revolutionary Government, he led a double life in Saigon, organizing for the revolution among Saigon's upper classes and youth, while also maintaining a public profile in support of successive puppet governments. After the ceasefire of April 1975, he watched the replacement of one oppressive regime with another, as North Vietnamese communists swept through the country. Disillusioned by what he saw, he refused a post in the government of unified Vietnam and escaped as one of the many thousands of Vietnamese boat people in hopes of being rescued by the Americans. This is his story, a new and illuminating perspective of the war in Vietnam. VERY GOOD First Edition unstated hardcover, gently read with pages clean and unmarked. Light shelf soiling to edges. Binding tight with hardboards in excellent condition. Jacket shows light corner wear with more extensive edge wear almost exclusively at top edges. No tears with light scuffing, mostly at back. Light soiling to inside flaps. Not a remainder. Collectible. 5.75" x 8.75." Vintage photos, maps, glossary, appendix, and text. 350 pgs.
