Description: This is a rare Juan Gris pochoir from the landmark L'ART CUBISTE by Guillaume Janneau, printed at Paris, France in May, 1929. The collotype plates of this limited edition classic (approximately 1000) were beautiful reproductions of works by some of the most noted cubists of that time, Georges Valmier, Georges Braque, Albert Gleizes, Auguste Herbin, Louis Marcoussis, Fernand Leger, Henri Laurens, Andre Lhote and Pablo Picasso. Collotypes are the product of a difficult and time consuming process which, through the use of special gelatin coated plates, produces a beautiful continuous tone image that captures all the subtleties of a painting or drawing. A small number of these were enhanced by the pochoir process, hand-cut stencil applied gouache, by the master Daniel Jacomet. The overall size of the sheet is 7.75 x 10.75 inches and the image size is 4.5 x 5.5 inches. The color is rich and the heavy velum paper is in remarkable condition given that is almost 100 years old with just the slightest bit of age toning. The piece is blank on the reverse. It is unsigned except in the plate. This is a remarkably affordable print with a historic connection to the evolution of twentieth century art. This plate is from volume 309.
