Description: Lehigh Valley Railroad two ads from 1894 This is a pair of vintage, full-page magazine advertisements which are over 125 years old, promoting the Picturesque Lehigh Valley Railroad. Both are on sheets measuring approximately 6.5 x 9.5 inches in size. They are in excellent condition. One appeared in an 1894 issue of The Chautauquan magazine. The other is also from 1894, and probably came from either Harper's Monthly or The Century magazine. One features an attractive drawing of a railroad coursing through a scenic countryside, while the other is illustrated with a map outlining the route followed from New York or Philadelphia to Niagara Falls and Chicago, through the Lehigh Valley, touted as The Switzerland of America. One ad text says that if one is traveling to Buffalo, the Lehigh Valley Railroad oftens unparalleled advantages. It offers a quick time, solid vestibule trains, steam heat, gas light, the most delightful scenery in the world, and no cinders. It also emphasizes that the Lehigh's Dining Car Service had recently been carried to a state of absolute perfection A veritable Delmonico's on wheels! The menu (a la carte) an inspiration! The chef an artist! . . . From the oyster to the walnut, every dish a revelation of gastronomic art. And not expensive, either! _gsrx_vers_1680 (GS 9.8.3 (1680))
