The tape reels are of frosted plastic, as can be seen in the last few pics with the tape shell open, and thus look a little different than the usual crystal clear plastic used for most tapes. Additional reassurance: I worked at video stores in the 90s and have repaired dozens if not hundreds of VHS and Betamax tapes, and you can be confident no damage was done opening the tape shell or reassembling it.
