Description: Little House on the Prairie - 1935 Laura Ingalls Wilder - Sewell - HB/DJ Little House on the Prairie 1935 Edition - Helen Sewell Illustrations July 1945 Printing - Reproduction Dust Jacket The adventures continue for Laura Ingalls and her family as they leave their little house in the Big Woods of Wisconsin and set out for the big skies of the Kansas Territory. They travel for many days in their covered wagon until they find the best spot to build their house. Soon they are planting and plowing, hunting wild ducks and turkeys, and gathering grass for their cows. Just when they begin to feel settled, they are caught in the middle of a dangerous conflict. Laura Ingalls Wilder (1867–1957) was born in a log cabin in the Wisconsin woods. With her family, she pioneered throughout America’s heartland during the 1870s and 1880s, finally settling in Dakota Territory. She married Almanzo Wilder in 1885; their only daughter, Rose, was born the following year. The Wilders moved to Rocky Ridge Farm at Mansfield, Missouri, in 1894, where they established a permanent home. After years of farming, Laura wrote the first of her beloved Little House books in 1932. The nine Little House books are international classics. Her writings live on into the twenty-first century as America’s quintessential pioneer story. This book is a scarce 1935 edition (July 1945 Printing G-U. stated 16th), with the original illustrations by Helen Sewell. Many LIW fans have never seen these original editions! In 1953, the much more commonplace Garth Williams illustrations were published. This book is a nice example, in GOOD+ condition. The boards show some soiling and ink stains on the back cover. The interior is free from writing. Some pages show repairs with scotch tape, but not through any text or illustrations. Pages 53-55(2 pages) have pieces missing from the outside edge. The text is not affected. The pages show some creasing and feel "soft." This title is one of the more hard to find in the Little House series. The REPRODUCTION dust jacket cuts off on the inside flaps due to paper size limitations, but displays nicely in a new mylar sleeve.
