Description: This is a lovely small trinket tray made in France by Edme Samson in the last decades of the 19th century. It is a rectangle made of white porcelain, measuring 3.3" long by 3" wide, and it stands about 5/8" high. This has bottom marks of 'made in France' and Edme Samson's unique marking, which mimics a Japanese chop mark. This is white with a shiny glaze and hand painted clusters of flowers and green leaves outlined in black. These continue up the sloping sides, as shown. In addition to the flowers and leaves, there are diamond shapes made with raised white slip in ovals filled with small white dots. I hope you can see them in the photos. This is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks and no noted crazing; however, the line of gilding around the upper edge of the dish has worn off in several areas, as shown. This is such a pretty little dish to use anywhere: use it to collect your earrings in the bedroom, or your keys on a hall table, or as a serving dish for mints, or a shelf decoration . . .
