Description: Objects bearing the imprint of "Made in Occupied Japan" were manufactured in American-occupied Japan from the end of WWII in 1945 and 1952, when occupation by American troops ended. These matching cups were made by Maruto. Both cups have some crazing but no chips and are in good condition. They are transfer-printed earthenware (but a finer earthenware than I'm accustomed to). On the exterior are pagodas, a fence, birds, and a depiction of a willow tree. On the inside of the rim is a print of two pagodas and three trees, including a willow. The handle is printed, too! There are no saucers; this is a set of two teacups. They will not be sold separately. Perhaps the most important printing, however, can be found on the bottom of each cup: MARUTO, MADE IN OCCUPIED JAPAN.
