Description: Here are four pre-1950, Gothic design 6 1/2 inch Majolica side plates made by Sell Pottery in Germany. Majolica, in a broad description, is a semitransparent glaze treatment over a ceramic/pottery shape. These plates are a transparent mustard yellow glaze, with a brown boarder rim, a soft rose, a moss green banding, and a seafoam blue-green center, cover an intricate raised surface grapevine, decorative banding, and swirled center scrolling. Made for reserved gatherings w/guests that appreciated the amount of art and "work/craftsmanship" that these plates represent. Majolica is usually very fragile and not for daily use. One plate has a center raised pattern "period" where the glaze has worn. One plate has a glaze rim scrape, all shown in the included photographs. Impressive visuals in a Victorian decor setting. No chips, cracks, flaws, or excessive other wear. This item is only available as an auction posting or can be purchased as a buy-it-now.
