Martin Chuzzlewit by Charles DICKENS VG+ Heritage Press ill. ed./slipcase 85161

Description: Available from Bluebird Books: The Life and Adventures of Martin Chuzzlewit: His Relatives, Friends and Enemies: Comprising All His Wills and Ways; the Whole Forming a Complete Key to the House of Chuzzlewit by Charles Dickens in an illustrated Heritage Press hardcover edition in slipcase Description: A handsome reprint edition (in slipcase) of the sixth novel by Charles Dickens (1812-1870), first published serially in 1843. "Martin Chuzzlewit" did not achieve the high level of popularity of some of Mr. Dickens's other works, but it was considered by him to be his best work. With 24 striking color illustrations by Wray Manning, and with an introduction by John T. Winterich. Sandglass leaflet not present. In full greenish-grey variant cloth-covered boards w/maroon decorations on covers & spine, gilt title oval on spine and maroon topstain. An undated copy, possibly published c.1940s-1950s. In maroon paper-covered slipcase. An excellent copy: clean, tightly-bound and bright but with prior owner's signature to front free endpaper and a couple of leaves near the front of the book with tears. Slipcase has minor sunning & rubbing and with a penciling, otherwise structurally sound. FINE - Approaches the condition of AS NEW, but lacking the crispness of a new book. These books or dust jackets should have no defects. NEAR FINE - Approaching FINE but with slight flaws. VERY GOOD - Describes a book or dust jacket that does show some small signs of wear or slight damage. GOOD - Describes the average used worn book or jacket that has flaws and/or damages. (An old bookseller said it best, "In rare books, Good ain't good".) FAIR - Worn book or jacket that is stained, has loose pages, tears, or otherwise has some sort of significant damage or other issue. POOR - Describes a book that is worn, damaged, stained or otherwise beat-up, making it useful as a reading copy but possibly not a collector copy. A POOR dust jacket is likely heavily torn, chipped or otherwise damaged. (A ' + ' or a ' - ' can indicate a shading of these values...either a nudge up, or a nudge down.)
