Description: This is clearly an original printing, not a reproduction. Envelope is rough, with yellowing, tears, tape, etc. Pattern pieces have been inventoried and inspected. One original piece, for the back of head, is missing and has been replaced by a hand-drawn piece which looks close to the correct size and shape. We now have modern technology that could enlarge the outline of the piece on the back of the envelope, and if I were going to use this pattern, I would use that technology to enlarge the tiny drawing to the correct size to match the front of the head. . I have had a few patterns from the 1940s, and all of them have had cut pieces, even if they appeared to have never been used. I think that patterns in that era came pre-cut and not printed on large sheets of tissue as they are now. I have not been able to find confirmation of that in print or on the internet, and I do not know any sewist old enough to remember patterns from the 1940s; most old women I know who can remember the 40s were small children then. It's possible that the head back piece never made it into the pattern envelope at the factory; even with modern patterns, I occasionally see a brand new pattern missing a sheet or with a duplicate of another sheet. If the pieces were precut, it would have been easy for either human or machine to miss packing one of the little pieces. One of the arm pieces has a 1" tear, which goes halfway through the piece. All of the pieces are smooth and neatly folded. When I inventoried the pattern, I found some very old, early photocopies of a couple pattern pieces that I am leaving in the envelope.
