Each 16 oz. jar is enough pigment to color 3 gallons of epoxy. **Note: Urethane mil thickness reduces when it dries. Always compare wet versus dry mil thickness. Primer: Product Description Special Note -Please Read Carefully: The various Colorized Metallic Epoxy coatings shown in the images are prepared by mixing 4- 5 ounces of Metallic Epoxy Pigment (Your choice of colors) with each gallon of Clear Two Part Epoxy Base Coat. The sample projects shown used the two or three different pigments (colors) as indicated. If you want Colorized Metallic Epoxy, you must add each of these components (Clear Epoxy Base+Pigment) to the cart seperately using the drop down selector above before checkout. Otherwise, you can purchase just the Clear Epoxy, or Pigment separately using the same drop down selection box above. You cannot paint with just pigment! Metallic epoxy is the latest and hottest coating being used for floor coating and many other projects. This coating is often preferred in the most expensive high-end new homes due to its beautiful artistic yet modern appearance and extreme durability. There are so many unique things about metallic epoxy. Metallic epoxy is created by dispersing metallic mica pigments into a Clear Epoxy Base (binder). This creates a unique three-dimensional appearance as the mica particles migrate and settle inside the clear epoxy. You can apply a single color or layer multiple colors into your project. These coatings create a glossy and deep looking floor. You can also create a variety of visual effects: Some effects create a beautiful three-dimensional appearance that gives the illusion of craters, ripples, and swirling rivers of metallic looking plasma. Some create the hammer/crater effect, swirls, lines, drip marks, blower, flame torch or just the natural metallic pigment disbursement. ..........The possibilities are endless. However, regardless of what you chose to go with, there are no guarantees on how it will come out. The finished appearance of metallic flooring systems can vary from soft and subtle changes in color to a more distinctive hammered effect. There is a certain amount of natural variation in the finished products appearance from job to job, which makes no two jobs identical. It is the fact that each floor is noticeably different that makes the product so unique. Metallic Epoxy Tips and Techniques Metallic coatings are very exotic looking. Unlike solid-color pigment or chips, no two metallic coating applications are alike. Metallic coatings utilize a clear epoxy base, and the translucent epoxy is colored by whatever metallic powder is being used. These coatings create a glossy and deep layered looking floor that can contain a variety of colors and visual effects. Metallic epoxies are mixed on the job site by adding metallic mica pigments dispersed into a 2-part clear epoxy binder to create a seamless coating. These coatings are perfect for retail establishments, nightclubs, automotive showrooms, residential interiors and garage floors. The coatings can also be used to coat countertops, decorative wall boards and many other artistic applications. As beautiful and stunning as these coatings look, the high-performance epoxy or polyurethane resin and a very high solids count make them exceptionally durable too. They are just as resistant to oil, salt, chemicals, acids, water and wear as any other high-performance epoxy coating. Maintenance is easy, and the amount of light they reflect is outstanding due to the glossy nature of the surface. Like any other epoxy coating, they can be a little slippery when wet. These jobs are tricky and take skills and creativity. There are many different effects and techniques for working with metallics. Here are just a few. There are several ways to apply metallics. The most effective way is pouring lines of epoxy paint out of a bucket and then or using a watering pot for more control of the pour so nothing goes to waste. Once the coating is out on the floor, a squeegee trowel is the best way to spread. This is sometimes followed by one or more light roller passes to level the paint. The use of a minimum of two colors is much better than a single color. Just remember to pour out each color in an opposite direction. Never merely pour one color on top of another. For a more extreme, exotic look, squeegee or roll out a single color, then apply the same or another color the “dipping and shaking” way with a brush, a stir stick, etc. Once the colors are down you can use a roller or a squeegee trowel to move the colors around, or you can just leave it alone. (In this case, do not try to swirl your colors.) You can also do a one, two or three-stroke light backroll. This will give you an acid stain look. You never want to get caught up in over- rolling your backroll, as that will blend your colors too much and you will go from multiple colors to just one color that was created from the over- rolling or squeegee. After your product gets tacky, you can apply numerous kinds of solvents, such as MEK (methyl ethyl ketone), xylene, denatured alcohol and isopropyl alcohol. Different types of solvents will provide you with different effects and looks. This is something that you as an installer will have to play with. A sample board divided into sections is a good way to practice. If you want the crater ripple effects and use a spray bottle to apply the solvent, all of your craters will look the same size. For random patterns, pour the solvent into a open 1-gallon bucket and use your hands and fingers to scoop it out and flick it onto the floor — actually, more like splash it on. You can go crazy with the solvents, but you need to be careful you don’t over-flood the floor because you will lose your effects. You can use a leaf blower, your fingers, or even a blowtorch to manipulate the metallics in the epoxy. For added durability and shine add a clear urethane as a topcoat after 12-16 hours of dry time on the epoxy, for cleanability and UV protection. The best recommendation is to not be scared. You will not mess up the floor at all. There is no wrong or right method. Metallic floors are unique in their own way and so a metallic floor is never "wrong". One might not look as good as the other, but that is where the creativity comes in. Add Epoxy Thickening agent for vertical applications to keep the epoxy from sagging. Components:1/ Crack Repair (As Needed) 2/Primer 3/ Designer Metallic Epoxy 4/ Designer Metallic Pigments 5/ High Wear Urethane Top-Coat (Optional) 1) Crack Repair Crack Repair Patch is a two-component, modified epoxy. It is the ideal product for patching concrete cracks, spalled areas and small holes (<1”) after surface preparation has been completed. Its extreme physical properties and high load-bearing strength makes Epoxy Crack Repair Patch the ideal product for filling and patching prior to the application of all Epoxy systems. Epoxy Crack Repair Patch is specially formulated to dry in 60 minutes, so you can complete crack repair and epoxy coating in 1 day. 2) Primer Premium quality 2-component water base epoxy concrete sealer/primer that provides epoxy toughness, chemical resistance and durability with the convenience of a water base VOC free system. Available in clear white or black. Use clear for sealing concrete to bring out the natural look. Use a black or white kit to seal your concrete with a solid color. If installing a Metallic Epoxy flooring system, we recommend using white for lighter final finishes and black for darker final finish to enhance the final look of the floor. Primer promotes better adhesion, helps to prevent pin holes and bubbles in the metallic coat, and allows the metallic coat to spread easier and better. We consider it essential. 3) Designer Epoxy Metallic Color Pigments Epoxy Plus Metallic Color Pigments are special effect pigments composed of mica nano-particles coated with various organic and inorganic pigments to create pearlescent and iridescent effects that mimic the natural look of stone and rock formations. These unique pigments are designed to be field blended with a 100% solids clear epoxy binder. When the metallic particles are mixed with epoxy they give the coating a shine that reflects light and creates an eye-catching dramatic color. For the most vivid color and dynamic effects we recommend 4-5 ounces of metallic pigment for each gallon of clear Epoxy. 4) Clear Two Part 100% Solids Designer Metallic Epoxy Designer Metallic Epoxy is a two component, high performance modified cycloaliphatic epoxy concrete floor coating system. Its epoxy chemistry provides excellent bonding characteristics. Its design features provide for the highest industrial and commercial demands. It can be applied as a 12 to 50 mil coating system. Designer Epoxy Metallic Color Pigments can be mixed into it to create a custom look. The uniqueness and universality of it’s chemistry facilitates the applications where USDA Food & Beverage and other regulatory requirements must be obtained. i.e. food manufacturing and preparation, pharmaceutical manufacturing and dispensaries, clean rooms, commercial kitchens, laboratories and more. Other areas of use include: countertops, garage floors, rest rooms, manufacturing facilities, automotive showrooms and schools, residential, commercial and retail spaces. It is the perfect choice for creating designer metallic epoxy floors. A key feature of this epoxy is its extended working time. With up to 45 minutes of working time, it allows both the experienced contractor and the first time do-it-yourselfer enough time to create stunning one of a kind floors without having to worry about the clock. It offers extended working time even in hot and humid environments. Designer Epoxy was specifically designed and formulated for use with our Designer Metallic Pigments. Packaging: A 3 gallon kit comes packaged in a 5 gallon bucket. There is 2 gallons of part A and 1 gallon of Part B inside the pail. 5) Solvents for special effects ( Buy at Home Depot): MEK (methyl ethyl ketone), xylene, denatured alcohol and isopropyl alcohol. Each has a slightly different effect. 6) Urethane Three Part clear top coat. A three component aliphatic urethane floor finish that exhibits excellent characteristics for abrasion resistance, chemical resistance, flexibility, weathering and UV stability. For auto service centers, warehouses, computer rooms, laboratories, aircraft hangers, cafeterias, indoor or outdoor service, chemical exposure areas, restaurants, retail and commercial spaces, offices and residential. For a gloss finish combine part a and b. For a satin finish add the included part c. Mixing: Crack Repair: Mix equal parts A and B using a putty knife or spatula. Primer: Primer has a mix ratio of 4:2:1 (4 parts A to 1 part B and 2 parts water). MIX 4 PARTS "A" WITH 1 PART "B" IN BATCHES NO LARGER THAN 1.25 GALLON AT A TIME . In a clean and dry bucket, mix 4 parts A and 1 part B together using an agitator, jiffy mixer or mixing paddle and drill . Mix slowly for at least 2 minutes or until completely combined. Add 64 oz. of cold water to blended Parts A & B. Mix for another 2 minutes. Prepare only the amount you can use in 2 hours in quantities of no more than 1 .25 gallon (1.75 with addition of water) at a time. Do not leave the mixed epoxy in the bucket longer than 3 hours. Once you mix the two parts of the epoxy, you only have about 2 hours of working time, so plan your batch sizes accordingly. Epoxy and Pigments: Smaller Kits (Note Smaller kits come with 1:1 ratio Epoxy - Check and use the proper ratio printed on the containers): Ratio: 1/2 gallons of Part A to 1/2 Gallon of Part B to 4-5 ounces of Pigment. Smaller batches can be mixed, but maintain the proper ratio. The pigment can be mixed into either part. However, since Part A is thinner, most find it easier to mix the Metallic Pigment in the A part. Pigments can be added and mixed into part A prior to mixing the part A and B epoxy together and that can be stored, but make sure the lid is securely sealed after mixing. To ensure thorough mixing of the pigment we recommend mixing the pigment for 10 minutes per kit with an electric drill and mixing paddle. ***IMPORTANT - MIX THOUROUGHLY AND ACCURATELY TO AVOID AREAS/POCKETS OF TACKY/UNCURED EPOXY*** Once you mix the two parts of the epoxy, you only have about 45 minutes of working time, so plan your batch sizes accordingly. Pigment Sample 20 Color Kit comes with enough pigment of each color to make a 12 ounce sample of epoxy with each color. Larger Kits (Note Most larger kits come with 2:1 ratio Epoxy - Check and use the proper ratio printed on the containers): Ratio: 2 gallons of Part A to 1 Gallon of part B to 12-16 ounces of Pigment. Smaller batches can be mixed, but maintain the proper ratio. The pigment can be mixed into either part. However, since there is twice as much part A as part B, most find it easier to mix the Metallic Pigment in the A part. ***IMPORTANT - MIX THOUROUGHLY AND ACCURATELY TO AVOID AREAS/POCKETS OF TACKY/UNCURED EPOXY*** Our 3 gallon kits are packaged in a convenient metal 5 gal pail. When you open the lid you will see the 1 gallon can of part B in a plastic cradle. The 2 gallons of part A are at the bottom of the pail. Once you mix the two parts of the epoxy, you only have about 45 minutes of working time, so plan your batch sizes accordingly. Pigment Sample 20 Color Kit comes with enough pigment of each color to make a 12 ounce sample of epoxy with each color. Urethane: For a gloss finish combine part a and b. For a satin finish add the included part c. To ensure thorough mixing of the pigment we recommend mixing for 10 minutes per batch with an electric drill and mixing paddle. Once you mix the, you only have about 45 minutes of working time, so plan your batch sizes accordingly. ***IMPORTANT - MIX THOUROUGHLY AND ACCURATELY TO AVOID AREAS/POCKETS OF TACKY/UNCURED URETHANE*** Coverage: See Table Above Application: Primer: Application should be made with a non shed 3/8 nap roller. Color Chart for Designer Epoxy Metallic Color Pigments: Floor Applications: Note - These results are achieved using these general basic steps: Step 1: Clean and prepare surface and then apply primer. Let primer dry overnight. Step 2: Mix and apply Metallic Epoxy by pouring the base color onto the floor followed by accent colors as desired. Flick more epoxy over the top to create patterns and craters. Spread evenly with squeegee and then lightly roller to level paint. Step 3 (Optional): Flick solvent over the surface to create more patterns and craters. Step 4: Allow Epoxy to dry overnight. Step 5: Apply Urethane top coat (optional). Do not wait more than 24 hours to apply Urethane. With a little creativity and effort, these incredible results are relatively easy to achieve, however results are not guaranteed. I am offering these products and tips as a service for those who want professional results without spending thousands of dollars. ******Biggest mistakes made: Not mixing the 2 parts thoroughly/accurate proportions. Forgetting to add parts A and B together. This results in a sticky floor that will not cure. EBAY POLICY: Ebay will not allow me to post links to videos. (Note: Spikes can come loose during transit: Please Tighten Spikes before using) Etch 'n Clean (Use to Prep Floor Before Coating) Concrete floors require preparation before applying a paint, high - performance coating system, stain or a concrete sealer. The preparation usually involves cleaning the surface to remove oil and other unwanted contaminants then "profiling" the concrete by etching with acid or by mechanical abrasion. If the concrete does not have heavy oil contamination, The Etch 'n Clean will provide both the cleaning and the profiling in one operation. For optimized performance, dilute the etch 'n clean in a 1 to 1 mix ratio with water. (1 gallon of etch 'n clean with 1 gallon of water). This will give you 2 gallons of solution to work with. (500+ sq/ft feet). If the concrete has been steel-trowelled, the surface will be very smooth. This finishing technique works fine cement particles to the surface creating a very hard, dense finish. Steel-trowelled floors may require multiple applications to achieve the desired profile.
