It fastens at the chin with a chin strap, I just did not fasten it on my doll. I'm parting with most of my middie blythe items. It was very gently used on middie and has been kept stored in a covered box, so it's in excellent shape. One multicolor eared hat only, NO Middie Blythe doll, dress on her, or chair in the photos included, it's just for reference to see the hat on a doll.
