Gorbachev addressed the same themes in a powerful message to the U.N. The power of separate nation states was no longer sufficient to meet the world-wide threat. Interesting first-person perspective on the reforms at the end of the USSR. This was published in 1987, in the middle of his reforms and before the USSR collapsed. He believes that all his reforms, which led to the collapse of his state and system, were all what Lenin would do. His alternative interpretation of the invasion of Afghanistan, among other unpleasant policies, is a fascinating example of how people can rationalize anything.
