Description: WE SUPPORT OUR TROOPS AND COUNTRY THE ARTIST - JACK FELLOWS Jack Fellows has been called a perfectionist at heart, and that attitude toward his work has created a passion for recording the essence of his subjects. Jack's interest in art began as soon as he could pick up a pencil at about the age of four years old. Painting professionally since 1967, Fellows has drawn wide acclaim and numerous honors for his oils & pastel paintings in galleries and art shows throughout the world. His favorite subjects, ethnic scenes, World War II vintage aircraft, and especially the Pacific Theater, at first seem to be an odd combination of subject matter. Fellows explains that he paints pictures of scenes that are not likely to be seen any longer. Such influences as having a wife of European descent and a father that was a Boeing Aircraft engineer that worked on the original B-17 project, further explains a basis for his subject selections. The historic qualities of his paintings are emphasized through his attention to graduations of light, the precision in which he assigns tonal weight to highlight and shadow, creative use of brilliant colors and the feeling of depth that he creates. Fellows draws upon technical skills acquired during his training as a commercial artist, and paints with a realism that pulls the viewer emotionally into the painting. His works are found in corporate, private, and museum collections as well as various publications worldwide. Jack Fellows Signed & Numbered Limited Edition Artist Proof Giclee Print "Milk Run to Kyushu" On 10 August 1945, in one of the final bombing missions in the war in the Pacific, more than 20 B-24s of the Fifth USAAFs 43rd Bomb Group targeted Oita, a Japanese home island city on Kyushu. Shown here are the Consolidated B-24 Liberators of the Far East Air Force departing the target area. Of special interest is the elaborate "Nose Art" displayed on late war Liberators such as this one from the 64th Bomb Squadron, 43rd Bomb Group, 5th USAAF. The B-24s in the painting were part of one of the Far East Air Force's last bombing missions against the Empire of Japan. Seen here leaving the target, the city of Oita on the Japanese home island of Kyushu, elements of the 64th Bomb Squadron, 43 Bomb Group, 10 August, 1945 were part of a twenty-plus B-24 raid by the 43 Bomb Group on a mission dubbed a "milk-run" due to the light-to-nil defensive opposition generated by the Japanese. In the foreground, #973 bears the flamboyant artwork covering the complete port side of the aircraft which would immortalize it and its creator S/Sgt. Sarkis E. Bartigian, who was assigned to the 64Tth Sqdn. ground echelon. Bartigian?s exuberant creations decorated the sides of a number of 43rd Bomb Group B-24s late in the war, but this one, "THE DRAGON AND HIS TAIL" was the most well known and photographed. After meeting an ignominious end in the smelters at Kingman, Arizona following the war's end, #973 recently was reincarnated in all its glory on the port side of the Collings Foundation's B-24, flouting Seargent Bartigian's provocative artwork at air shows around the U.S. 32" x 19" Image Size, 36" by 23.5" Sheet Size, Artist Proof, Edition of 10 - $225 Also available as: 32" x 19" Image Size, 36" by 23.5" Sheet Size, Limited to 199, signed by the artist - $200 All Limited Edition prints are signed and numbered (S/N) by the artist. Limited Edition prints are restricted to a certain number. For example, if 400 prints are made from an original painting, once they’re gone, that’s it. There is no limit to the number of open edition prints of a particular painting. That’s why Limited Edition prints are more expensive — and more valuable to collectors — than "open" edition. Rare objects are more valuable. An Artist’s Proof (AP), generally, is the first 10% of the Limited Edition prints that come off the press. If the Limited Edition is 400 s/n, there would be 40 APs. This status is noted on the print. Collectors prefer APs because their value increases even more than a Limited Edition as time goes by. The term "giclee" denotes an elevation in printmaking technology. Images are generated from high resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality inks onto various substrates including canvas, fine art, and photo-base paper. The giclee printing process provides better color accuracy than other means of reproduction. The quality of the giclee print rivals traditional silver-halide and gelatin printing processes and is commonly found in museums, art galleries, and photographic galleries. All Limited Edition artwork is subject to availability at time of order. Although seller strives to remain current as to inventory, seller reserves the right to cancel a sale if item is no longer available at time of purchase.
