Description: Coin contains 1 Troy Ounce of 999.9 Pure Silver. The antiquing on this coin is very well done creating the perfect contrast between the characters and the background. There's a peach at the top of the flag in the background, denoting his status as "Peach Boy" - - Momotarō (桃太郎, "Peach Boy"), one who was born from the woman who consumes the peach and grows years younger in age.. by some accounts the woman finds the peach at a river and they discover Momotaro inside once they open it at home. The child is said to have been sent from heaven to be their son, so they name him Momo (peach) and Taro (first son in the family). When he grows up he declares to his parents he wishes to kill demons or ogres on Demon Island. So his mother ladens him up with delicious treats and along the way he gains the attention of a dog and then other companions. He is the popular protagonist of Japanese folklore and Momotarō is also the name of various books and films that portray the ancient exploits of this hero to this day. His story is remarkably similar to that of the Ramayana .. like Lord Rama, Momotaro is born to great parents and travels to Demon Island or Lanka to slay demons. He is accompanied by a monkey, a dog, and a pheasant. While the monkey may symbolize Hanuman, the pheasant is a symbol of Japan and is related Japanese mythology in which the green pheasant was considered to be the messenger of Amaterasu, the sun goddess and the ruler of the heavens in the Shinto religion. The stories are not completely the same of course, though it is more similar to the Ramayana than to say China's "Journey To The West" which also has a protagonist accompanied by a monkey (and other animals) on an odyssey.
