It was taken to the post office by the writer and mailed through the United States Postal Services' mail. It is a "stampless cover." You are purchasing only the postal portion. I do not have the letter. ONE of the reasons it is collectible is because of the fact that the local postmaster applied postal markings considered appropriate for the letter's journey. In addition to being collectable because of the town or origin, the addressee, or something else that may appeal to you, it is a collectable item of "postal history" because of the rates, markings and usage. A delightful cover where the CDS and "PAID 3" appear to be in the same ink that wrote the address, even though if it had been sent by the postmaster it could have traveled for free. "NEWFIELD N.Y."
