Description: Each bid is for ONE rare specimen from the Arikareean (Late Oligocene) Brooksville 2 site in Florida. This listing is for a rare Agnotocastor beaver tooth. This was a small species, much smaller than modern day beavers. The images show typical specimens like the one(s) you will receive. The fossils are found in fissures within the rock and are interpreted as being the inhabitants and prey of animals that lived in the cave system. Rare material and excellently preserved. The presence of Bat fossils confirms the idea that these fissures were part of a cave system. All our material from this locality is part of the microfauna with most pieces measuring ~2 to 4 mm long. You need magnification to properly view these fossils, but they are wonderful examples of a 28 million year old cave environment. The specimen(s) are shown in a ~1.25 inches wide gem jar for scale.
