In 1951, NATO took over responsibility for development, adding input from other members. In August 1954, the cartridge was given the designation "BALL, M59", followed in February 1957 when NATO approved the 7.62mm M59 Ball cartridge as the first standard cartridge for all member nations. In March 1958, production contracts for the M59 cartridge were given to Federal Cartridge Co., Remington Arms Co., Western Cartridge Co., and Winchester Repeating Arms Co. Production of the M59 cartridge continued through early 1960.Each single purchase is for two unassembled cartons with a Western Cartridge Co. 7.62mm NATO M59 Ball label. The lot numbers are hand stamped on the labels prior to shipping, matching my original box. The cartons will be shipped flat, with assembly instructions.
