Description: OPUNTIA BASILARIS Var. basilaris -Engleman and J. M. Bigelow, 1857 . Often called "Beavertail Prickly Pear" and "Beavertail Cactus". Nice fresh aprx. 3 to 6 inches or larger clean cutting, complete pad. Cut treated with Rootone root growth hormone to help with sure rooting. A native originally to the Mojave, Colorado, Sonoran and Chihuahauan Desert from South Eastern California to the Mexican state of Sonora, this is a very drought resistant cacti. Very attractive deep pink flowers when blooming, spring to summer. Very hardy and fairly easy to grow in most climates where it does not freeze for extended periods, requires very little water. The Cahuilla Indian tribe and others used this cacti as a food source, the buds being roasted, the seeds ground and cooked as a sort of mush. Can reach 3 to 4 feet tall at maturity, often spreading in large patches, but is a slow grower. Photo here is of a similar plant to what you will receive a cutting from. We try to pick the nicest material we have for these cuttings, they vary depending on the weather/season, so at times we may send rooted cuttings. FREE SHIPPING!
