Constructed of gold metal/brass hand-pinned over wood. There is a horizontal wooden support on the back and a hanging wire. Extra piece of backing added for additional support. Additional Details: Lithograph from 1906 In 1892, Aristide Bruant was invited to Les Ambassadeurs, one of the café-concerts on the Champs-Elysées. Toulouse-Lautrec captures the massive three-quarter silhouette of the chansonnier, standing out against a brightly colored background, wearing his wide-brimmed hat, and his emblematic attributes, the red scarf and the stick that serves as his cane. (Source: Toulouse Lautrec Museum). Aristide Bruant was a versatile artist, known for being a singer, composer, actor, writer and cabaret owner. He bought the "Le Mirliton" cabaret in 1892 and turned it into a popular place of entertainment in Montmartre. The poster testifies to the effervescence of nightlife and culture in Montmartre at the end of the 19th century. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec was a late 19th century French artist, born in 1864 in Albi, southwestern France, and who died in 1901 at the age of just 36.
