Description: Original Signed Etching by Julius Komjati (1894 - 1958) A reversed image of another Komjati etching titled "Prayer" created in 1928 Don't understand how a reverse etching is made, but there's no mistaking that this is a mirror image of the 1928 etching "Prayer". It's an original etching with a plate mark on the edges of the image. Komjati signed it in ink with the initials RE following his name. (Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers) Although Komjati was Hungarian born and even lived most of his life there, you'll find him listed extensively under 'British Artists'. He moved to London as an adult and studied and exhibited there. He became a member of the prestigious art societies such as the Royal Society of Painters and Etchers and the Royal Engravers. He is considered by some as one of the greatest etchers of the 20th century. His sorrowful subjects reflect his eighteen months as a prisoner of war where he was held in appalling conditions by the Romanians during the first world war. The print is in excellent condition but was permanently laid down to a backing board by a previous owner. It was framed when we found it, but the frame and mat were in deplorable condition so were discarded. We've replaced the mat with an acid-free pale grey mat. It is unframed. The plate size is 9-1/2" x 7-3/4" Overall with the mat: 12-1/4" x 14-1/2" __________________________________Inv.
