Description: "Orrefors Glass" by Alastain Duncan. 1995 Antique Collectors' Club. Apparent first edition - no edition or printing detail provided on copyright page. ISBN 1851492240. 231 pages with black and white and color photos throughout. Hardcover with dust jacket. The author has signed and inscribed the book on the first free page. The inscription reads: "Dear Kathy: Orrefors glass is best enjoyed when it is filled to the rim! Love, as ever, Alastair + MaryBeth". According to the acknowledgements in the book, Duncan's assistant was Marybeth McCaffrey, "whose collaboration proved vital, as always". I assume Marybeth communicated for Duncan with many collectors and dealers of Orrefors glass, and this book was possibly inscribed to a "Kathy" that helped in the creation of the content of the book. Books signed by Duncan are uncommon, and don't come up for sale often. Alastair Duncan is considered a worldwide expert in Art Deco and the decorative arts. He started his career with 14 years at Christie's. He has written many books covering many areas of the decorative arts of the late 1800s and early 1900s. This book starts with a history of Orrefors, then presents the work of a number of their designers. The book concludes with some technical details of the making and decorating of the glass, and a list of marks and signatures used over time. The photos are of the actual book on offer. See the photos for additional insight into content and condition of this fine collectors book on Orrefors glass.
