The Orvis lines have always outlast the others and out performed. My home water is tough on fly lines, they have a difficult time staying high in the water generally, but not my Orvis lines. So much less friction on the water. See the video for how “silent” the 5 wt line is while stripping a large (8) frog…. If you’re a top water and/or up close fly fisher I’d highly recommend this like. Soooo gentle on the surface. I've used several competitive brands and, simply put, this line out performs them from an accuracy and drag perspective. It floats well in various conditions and has an appropriate belly for the kind of casting I like to do. Having said all of that, I've had to replace this line more than once within a season on more than one of my fly rods because of cracking and separation at the welded loop. It's very likely a result of something I am doing during the cast, but I've (we've?) got to get to the bottom of what's causing it. I still think this the best fly line I've used; just need to figure out how to avoid spending $130 on a fly line more than once inside of a season.
