Measuring approximately 6.5 x 4 inches (unframed) and 10.5 inches x 7.5 inches (framed). William Home Lizars (1788-1859) was a Scottish painter and engraver. He studied at the Edinburgh College of Art and the University of Edinburgh. From 1840 to 1880 for the 40 volumes of Sir William Jardine's "Naturalist's Library", William Home Lizars engraved over 1,200 different species of birds, animals, fish and insects. These engravings are on creamy tone paper, finely detailed and hand colored at the time of the publication with backgrounds left uncolored. This item is antique and sold as is. The item may show wear, fading, scratches, stains, creases, original imperfections and/or other forms of damage. I note that metal frames show wear and scratches as shown in photos.
