Description: Here is an item I never considered as a product. But I got a request, so here it is. You're buying two of this item in one sale. A so-called "parasitic choke" is more properly a "parasitic-suppression" choke coil. It serves as an obstacle to frequencies way above the ones that you WANT to amplify. Prevents those frequencies from feeding back into the tube's input side, to prevent the amplifier from oscillating. Inductance measures around 1/10th of a microhenry, more or less. That's 100 nanohenries to the geeky types. The resistor is rated for 5 Watts. Yes, it doesn't look big enough. The factory parasitic choke Heathkit supplied for the 3-500Z tube used a 2-Watt resistor that looks twice the size of this one. The Heathkit resistor was made from plastic materials that are damaged by high temperatures. This resistor is made from ceramic and high-temperature materials rated up to 200 degrees C. That brown Heathkit resistor would be toasted at half that temperature. As such, it doesn't need as much surface area to dump its heat energy. Yeah, I like the older larger 5-Watt carbon film resistors but they are getting tough to find. If you don't believe me gargle the TE Connectivity/Holsworthy spec sheet for type number "ROX5SSJ47R". You'll see that I'm not just making up that 200 degree C number. THIS RESISTOR IS MEANT FOR THE HAM SIDEBAND OPERATOR WHO DOESN'T APPLY EXCESSIVE DRIVE TO THE AMPLIFIER!!! Excess drive power creates harmonic energy in the tube, and that energy will roach the parasitic resistor. Never mind why, not ready to put the audience to sleep today. Yes, we build a different parasitic choke with two 100-ohm 5-Watt resistors in parallel for the AM operators. THIS PART AIN'T THAT PART. No target date for offering the AM-operator version for now.
