It is not widely grown commercially but is commonly grown as an ornamental plant. General Description: A citrus hybrid of a pomelo (Citrus maxima) and a citron (Citrus medica). Hardiness Zone: 9 to 11 ? quite cold sensitive Maintenance: Low Mature Height: 12 to 24 feet Mature Width: 10 to 15 feet Plant Details: Growth Habit: Slow growing, with a rounded top. Leaf Structure: Long, glossy, ovate to elliptical, evergreen, lemon scented. Stem Structure: New growth is purple-tinged. Thorns along the branches. Bark Structure: Matures to medium thick branches. Soil Preference: Sand, Loam. Neutral. Watering Preference: Medium Sunlight Preference: Full Sun Bloom Time: Can bloom year-round. Will blossom if kept in temperatures between 80° and 90°. Nut Production: N/A Main Use of Plant: Indoor: Can be grown indoors in a sunny window, keep minimum temperatures between 55° to 65°. Will usually fruit in the autumn. Outdoor: Grown for fruit production and as an ornamental tree. Winterization Methods: If grown in pots in cooler locations, bring indoors during the winter/colder months. Fun Fact: Trees can flower and bear fruit at the same time. General Notes: This tree originated in the late 1880s as a chance seedling growing in Maryland. It was then named and introduced to the nursery trade in 1900. Not a true lemon. Can be utilized just the same though. We grow everything organically with a beneficial insect program.
