Description: A beautiful collectible 4 stamp block set of U.S. postage stamps issued in 1960 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the pony express. The pony express used a team of 400 men and horses to deliver mail from Missouri to California in less than half the time it took other methods of delivery. It operated for a year and a half before the advent of the transcontinental telegraph. Riders typically rode 80 - 100 miles, changing horses about every 10 miles at stations along the route. These stamps have never been used and are as fresh as the day they were sold at the Post Office more than 60 years ago! Suitable for framing. they would make a great gift for anyone interested in the history of the mail service. Look in my other auctions for blocks of stamps of other historical significance including a block of stamps issued in 1940 commemorating the pony express! All stamps are Mint Never Hinged. Shipping is $1.00 for first class mail. Additional stamp block auctions won, paid for in one COMBINED transaction and shipped at the same time are only 25 cents extra per auction (sheets and booklets not included), with a maximum shipping charge of $5.00, no matter how many auctions you win. Please pay for all of your auctions in one payment. All payments are to be in US currency only. I send stamps out when I receive your payment or the day after if the mail has already gone out. Thanks for looking at my auction. If you have any questions, please email me before bidding.
