Released in 1980, the "Servolock" TX-3000 boasts dual VU meters and a servo-locked tuner/amplifier with cutting edge tuner circuitry that automatically locks in the channel when you release the tuning knob! With stunning looks and plenty of power, the SX-3000 retailed for $300, that's almost $1,200 today!Onkyo's TX-3000 proves that superb performance is a function of design and construction. This receiver has been designed for sophistication providing a variety of convenience usually found only in highest priced units. Start with Servolock, Onkyo's unique tuning system, which automatically tunes in the best reception with minimum distortion and maximum separation when the dial is set near the desired station. Once the signal is locked in, it maintains the best reception without any drift, even though changes in temperature and frequency occur.In addition to the triple-indicator tuning, the front panel has a multi-position speaker selector, individual Bass, Treble, Volume and Balance controls, and buttons for High Filter, Tape Monitors, Tuner/Phono, AM/FM, FM Muting, Stereo/Mono, De-emphasis, and a Loudness button that contours the sound dynamics perfectly for low level listening.The manual gives this a "Continuous Power" rating of 90 Watts, or 45 W/Ch into 8Ω through full spectrum and both channels fully driven, and an impressive Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) of only 0.04%, far below what the human ear can detect. Remember, these are what audiophiles call "Vintage Watts," from an era where, unlike today, it was a sin to manipulate or elaborate the power ratings!The front panel has a 1/4" Headphone jack while the rear offers two speaker zones, two Tape Loops, and a stereo Phono Input with a grounding post for your turntable! It also has a "Servolock" Sensor switch, multiple Antenna terminals, attached AM Antenna, two AC outlets, switched & unswitched, and access to the power amp protection fuses. This model is a bit under but considering it's vintage and value, we'll still give it the high-end treatment. We do offer free pick-up for paid items in the Denver metro area. Condition:This gorgeous receiver is in "Excellent" condition with minimal signs of use and a nice, bright dial! So what puts the "Y" in "Minty?" After a close inspection we found a clean cabinet with sharp corners to the knobs and feet, if it weren't for a few minor signs of use we would have had no problem calling this beauty fully "Mint!" NOTE: We have a great deal of experience with these Onkyo's and we know sometimes the front panel text can wear easily. In fact, we have found that simple Windex can remove the text on some models, so we are always very careful when cleaning them and we suggest the lucky new owner do the same to preserve the current condition. All the original knobs are present & complete, as are the attached AM Antenna and AC cord. The original Owner's Manual is also in excellent condition with minor signs of use. A bonus brand new FM Dipole Antenna is also included! All comes in the pictured generic box with custom Styrofoam packaging. Please do inspect all the pictures thoroughly for actual condition.Service:On inspection, this unit worked fine with just a little scratchiness to the knobs and a few lamps out, but they all go to our tech for the usual servicing. A few lamps were still working, but as they are bound to fail we just replace them all with LED's so you won't have to worry about them ever again. Instead of the original white dial incandescents with blue filters, Blue LEDs were installed that shine with a much richer color! Then, the overwhelmingly popular Green LED's were chosen for the meters that contrast the dial nicely. Even the Tuner indicators and hard to replace pointer lamp were upgraded so you won't have to worry about them either. In fact, we weren't happy with the lack of illumination the unidirectional LED's give on these pointers, others just resort to using an incandescent. But as longevity is the whole idea behind the LED upgrade, our tech has come up with a custom way to install a 1-segment LED that illuminates the pointer much better.All vintage receivers receive the following services and much more, all performed by our qualified technician:Lid is removed & unit is inspected to determine if any attempted amateur repairs exist that need to be corrected, or substandard parts that need replacementThe exterior, all knobs & plexis are cleaned & detailedWhile the front panel is removed for cleaning, all attachments are re-glued and dried out foam inserts replaced.All switches & pots are cleaned internally with Specialist Contact Cleaner (proven superior to DeoxIT by our customers), while those with special needs receive the less aggressive DeoxIT F-5All lamps that are out, or believed to be prone to failure, are replaced if necessary. All inputs and features were confirmed operational and the tuner spins smoothly. Even though we are in a remote area it was able to pull in all our local FM stations with the included wire antenna, activating the tuning meter and lighting all three tuning indicators.
