Description: This stunning piece of art is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, featuring a beautiful oil painting of children in a typical Dutch street art scene. The painting was created by a Father and Son both named Leendert De Koningh, during the Victorian period. This medium-sized canvas painting is signed by the artist and comes framed in a beautiful copper gold color frame. The painting is an original production from the pre 1850s period and showcases the artists impressive skills in portraiture and realism. The item is handmade and features exceptional details that capture the essence of the Dutch culture and style. This painting is perfect for any art lover or collector and would make a fantastic addition to any collection. "ALMS FOR THE POOR,” A very rare Father & Son collaboration including Leendert De Koningh I (1777-1849) (the "Elder") and Leendert De Koningh II (1810-1887) (the "Younger"). The Elder was a MASTER of the landscape, no close-up work of faces and people. The Younger was a MASTER of the face and human form. Dutch Masters are known for their perfect portrayal of people in scenes of peasant life. A personal piece no doubt as the Koninghs show TRUE and REAL LIFE, RAW emotion in this painting, something that oftentimes escapes the Dutch works. This is by FAR the BEST painting Leendert De Koningh created capturing the most EMOTIONAL, SYMBOLIC, and diverse pieces of art before his death. Both successful artists in their own right put together such a tremendous piece of work and executed it with their BEST. Most likely created in the 1840s closer to the death of the Elder because the skill level displayed here clearly indicates both men were at a pinnacle point in their refined skills. Their interpretation here is a truly heart-wrenching scene... a truly profound subject matter capturing a moment in time of two peasant children in the streets. One of an older sister with her head down in shame with a look of hopelessness, while her brother's eyes of blue glimmer with a shadow of hope. Their painting has a truly gifted quality. It remains in trend with the requirement of being precise and exacting, yet fades in brush strokes impressionistic quality to the work. The gentle way the boy holds his hat out, upside down with hope is just so touching. The details are perfect from the cobblestone streets to the flap shoes, yet the gazer's eyes focus on the FACES of these poor children. Leendert De Koningh the elder was a pupil of A. Vermeulen and M. Versteeg. He worked in England from 1801-1802 and later in Paris where he would study under Louis David, one of the most important painters in history. In 1805 traveled to Germany and again to England. In 1813 he was back in Dordrecht and worked for local collectors. His son the younger took up the trade and was too a successful artist.
