Description: This is a beautiful and finely rendered RARE Antique Connecticut Impressionist Landscape Oil Painting on Artist Board, by seldomly seen early 20th century New England painter, Lucy Walmsley (b. 1879.) This artwork depicts an enchanting and tranquil winter forest scene, with tall trees with sparse foliage or autumnal hued leaves, a small snow-covered walking path, and the silhouette of a lone figure walking in the foreground. The attention to detail in this painting is remarkable, and the overall scene and technique is reminiscent of the early French Impressionists of the late 19th century. Signed and dated: "Lucy Walmsley 1917" in the lower left corner. There is very little biographical information on this artist, and the only mention of her artistry is cited from a newspaper article in the Hartford Courant, dated March 8th, 1931, which remarks that Walmsley exhibited a sculpture as her submission in the pursuit of receiving the Academy of Arts Award at an art exhibition in Hartford, Connecticut. Approximately 14 1/4 x 18 5/8 inches (including frame.) Actual artwork is approximately 9 3/4 x 14 inches. Very good condition for over a century of age, with some mild scuffing, edge wear, and material loss to the original period ornate gilded wood frame (please see photos.)
