Description: FREE SHIPPING The taller piece in this evocative pair of sculptures measures approximately 6.25" t. is hand signed by the artist, Emilie Scrivens and dated '39 (for 1939). The sculptor studied at the Cleveland School (now Institute) of Art under CIA graduate and long-time faculty member Edris Eckhardt, who also oversaw the ceramic program of the Federal Art Project (1935-1938). For the FAP, Scrivens created several works as part of a series devoted to The Three Bears and another devoted to the story of Cinderella, along with a portrait of Hans Brinker, and figurines illustrated and described in East of the Wind, West of the Sun. All of the latter were made in limited editions of no more than 50 examples. These comedy and tragedy masks, however, are UNIQUE, meaning they are ONE OF A KIND. They were sculpted by hand, by Scrivens herself, not cast in a mold. Rare opportunity to own a vintage example of a WPA era artwork by a talented and listed artist.
