Description: Available is this vintage and rare P&W commemorative casting desk display/paperweight. Very few of these were made. They were made when they had a local Explorer's group for a day tour and participation. This is when this was cast. It appears to be made of a heavy metal casting alloy showing the "grain" some metals can produce when solidified from molten metal. It is non-magnetic and has a hard surface. It is not lead and too heavy to be aluminum. It does not show any type of oxidation (rust or corrosion). My guess is it is some sort of nickel or low temp alloy. It has a half hemisphere and chevron-like symbol with raised lines to simulate the space flight path of the chevron (not scratches). Encircling lettering reads: "PRATT & WHITNEY AIRCRAFT, EXPLORERS POST-193, ENGINEERING". It measures approximately 4 inches long by 3 1/4 inches wide by almost 1 inch at its thickest point, the round portion measures 3 1/4 inches in diameter. It is from the 1960s or 70s. The piece is in excellent condition and came from the P&W plant in Florida. Don't miss your chance to add this rare example to your collection or to give as a unique present for that special someone.I take high-resolution pictures and often 'post-process them to reflect the colors and condition as it should look in person. Unfortunately, because of the high resolution. Often times, my pictures make some irregularities look much worse than they really are while other times, they often don't show the real beauty and condition as if it was being examined in hand and 'eye of the beholder'. I have several different P&W items and logos including more of the "flying pig" eagle that was used from 1980 to '89. Some of these items were modified by my father while he worked at P&W. For several years he was a supervisor over a few different departments and utilized some of these resources to make and/or solder attachment pins to many of the pin backs that show it has been soldered. Some of these modifications were to repair or improve or to make a nonexistent one-of-a-kind pin back piece from the P&W emblems he obtained. The shops that were he supervised were shops that corporate headquarters would use to make special awards and presentation plaques and such for customers, retiring employees and dedications. Not shown in most of the pictures, all pin backs will have the proper clips provided with the pins. This item is an authentic UTC and Pratt & Whitney corporate piece given to employees and customers to remind them of the company's prominence and for its employees for consistently providing the best service and work in the world of high-performance dependable engines for the military, space programs, and commercial airlines for decades. I have many different vintage P&W items I will be making available for purchase, many different patches (both embroidered and peel-n-stick), metal engine badges, service awards, and many other pieces of memorabilia all accumulated from my father and me through our many years of employment with P&W. Check back to see the newly listed P&W items as I get the time to picture and post them. All items are guaranteed genuine corporate issued from Pratt & Whitney obtained as employees of P&W. Most of our accumulated items were not released for the general public, only employees and customers of P&W. We are both retired and have 67 years of combined dedicated service ranging from years 1958 to 2013 (some are dated). We both worked in different areas and departments, working mostly government-contracted research and development for military aircraft engines as well as the SSME program (Space Shuttle Main Engine). Most items were obtained from the West Palm Beach Florida P&W facilities which first began operations in 1958, the year my father started working there and the same year I was born. A few items are from the P&W Connecticut East Hartford headquarters where I was relocated in 1999 for my continued employment until my retirement in 2013. My father retired from Florida P&W in 1993 and most of the items are from his employment and subsequential retirement reunions. He worked several years in the mock-up department as a bench worker and supervisor which afforded him to obtain many unique and rare P&W items, some of which he modified to suit his or someone else's needs. * THE FINE PRINT **************************************************** Everything is sold as-is.
