Description: Own a piece of history with this RARE find (provenance included)!! Streator Bottle & Glass Company (1881-1905) Originally used for beer, SB & G Co. bottles were common in the late 1800’s and were often reused for soda or cider by the turn of the century. The Streator plant eventually became part of the American Bottle Company, then later Owens Bottle Company, and finally part of the Owens Illinois Glass Company. The bottom of the bottle has the “SB & G Co.” marking which were common bottles in the late 1800’s. The age of this particular bottle is estimated around 1890-1895. Imperfections in the glass including large air bubbles, air ventilation holes on the shoulder make this a fine example of a handblown glass beer bottle of the era. Interestingly, the cork seems to have survived with one part at the bottom and the other wedged in the neck of the bottle. This alone makes the bottle a very rare find. (This bottle was found in the basement crawl space of the former Dominion House Hotel in Port Dover, Ontario, Canada covered under dirt and debris during recent basement work. The approximate age of the bottle corresponds to the construction date of the Hotel - 1885).
