Replica Gibson EB-2 Style Semi-Hollow 5-String Bass

Description: This bass is a replica of a vintage bass that never existed. It brings modern & classic features together in a vintage style instrument. It looks cool and it plays & sounds great. It is in the style of a Gibson EB-2 bass. And more broadly, in the style of recognizable, semi-hollow basses of the 60's from leading brands like Gibson, Epiphone, Guild, Hagstrom & Hofner. There were no 5-string basses back then (Yes, I'm aware of the Fender Bass V, but it's not representative of modern 5-string basses.) and even now a semi-hollow or full hollow-body 5-string is an uncommon thing to come across. This bass makes a great project platform. That's the reason I bought it. My intention was to strip this bass of it's hardware & electronics and rebuild it in an awesome manner. I did replace the pickups with the current humbuckers from a Sire Marcus Miller M2 5-String bass. They are a HUGE improvement over the ones it came with. I always have more projects than time and right now I need to generate as much cash as possible for some brutal and pressing bills, so I'm offering this bass up for someone to either enjoy as-is or to pursue its mod-platform aspects. My loss, your gain and all of that... Here's my opinion on some of the pros & cons of the design features of this bass: Pros:The pickup cavities are routed for your typical modern 4" soap-bar pickups. This decision opens up the possibilities of using a variety of modern 5-string pickups from EMG, Bartolini, Nordstram, Aguilar, etc vs being stuck with old-school Gibson Sidewinder or Mud-bucker neck pickups and mini-humbucker bridge pickup as you'd generally find on this sort of bass. The 22-Fret Rosewood fretboard is very nice to play.The large body provides a full, rich tone. It's a relatively light bass at ~8.5lbs. It's a 5-String semi-hollow bass! One that you can play, tinker with and mod without too much worry compared to nearly any other semi-hollow bass that would cost a minimum of 2x, possibly up to 5x the price, if you could even get your hands on one without having to order it custom and wait 6+ months to receive it.Even though this bass is pretty huge, you don't have to spend a fortune on a proprietary hard-shell case to protect it. I tried several things and landed on a a good-quality bass gig-bag that covers it all except the very top of the headstock and topmost tuners on the treble side. It zips right up to there and since it never leaves my studio, it's not a problem. If I were to need to take it out into the world I'd figure out something like a backpack made out of the same material that could go over the top and zip down to provide protection. Hey, I'm used to having limitations spur some creative solutions!Cons:The large headstock, while providing a lot of mass for tone, leads to the bass being prone to some neck-dive. This isn't the end of the world & can be mitigated with the right strap. If one were to install some Hipshot Ultralight tuners or more budget-friendly Guyker knock-offs, that would likely improve the situation.The bridge is an archtop Jazz-guitar style floating bridge held in place by string pressure. This is great for the ability to intonate the bass precisely, but a Hipshot SureTone or some type of fixed bridge would be an improvement. Even a brass or bone bridge saddle for this bridge or a similar archtop type bridge would be a sensible improvement. Variations on that theme are available for under $20 on AMZ & here on eBay, so you could try out a few ideas without sinking a ton of cash into it. I ship FAST!! See my feedback.
