Description: This is a Russian made cloth, ethnic doll of a townswoman in Moscow from the 17th to 19th centuries. This doll is made of mostly cotton cloth with braids and ribbons attached horizontally on the apron, skirt border and the shoulder area of the shirt. She is wearing a body length skirt with the apron held up by a cloth strap around the neck and the apron falls loosely down the front of the dress. She stands a little over 20" tall and is about 10" wide and about 5" in depth. Note the typical tall Russian cap she is wearing covered by a scarf. Also of interest, are the tree bark woven shoes with fiber "tie-on" straps that are crisscrossed going up the legs. Also, note that the hands are coming out a slit on the light blue sleeves almost half way up instead of the hands exiting the sleeve at the very end of the sleeve. Again, a very typical Russian style, usually worn by the aristocrats. This doll is made by the well known Russian dollmaker, Galina Maslennikova. The wood doll stand is not included.
